Anciano Clásico Garnacha
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Mostly non-irrigated vineyards with low yields. Terres dels Alforins is a fertile valley in the south west of the province and is called the “Valencian Tuscany”: a multitude of small plots between the sea and the “meseta” where vines have been tended since Roman times.
Varietal Composition: 85% Garnacha, 10% Tempranillo, 5% Monastrell
Elaboration: Fermentation is in stainless steel tanks for 7 days at 72º F and then a portion of the wine is matured in oak barrels for 7 months.
Tasting Notes: Bright and intensely vibrant red fruit aromas with generous, smooth red and black berry flavors, soft tannins and a nice touch of spice from the oak.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND
Anciano wines are from a family-owned vineyard in Criadores de Rioja located in Alberite, Spain, just six kilometres from Rioja’s capital of Logroño. The bodega is strategically situated at the crossroads of the appellation’s three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, sheltered by the Cantabrian Mountains; Rioja Alavesa with its yellow-hued limestone soils; and Rioja Oriental, home to reddish silica soils. The region is also at the intersection of three weather patterns – continental, Mediterranean and Atlantic.
Criadores de Rioja was founded in 1999. The estate is owned by the Vivanco family, who are well-known in the region for having spent over 100 years and four generations in Rioja winemaking. The estate practices sustainable, organic farming techniques.
