Backyard Vineyards has been producing award-winning BC wines for more than 10 years. And, they promise, there’s a whole bunch more to come!
Since 2009, Backyard Vineyards in the Township of Langley, British Columbia, has been producing sought-after varietals, blended, and bubbly wines from 100% BC grapes grown on-site and complemented with fruit carefully selected from the Fraser Valley and South Okanagan.
Talented winemaker, Liam Berti, is at the heart of the operation and is committed to producing best-in-class wines in Vancouver’s bountiful “backyard,” about 45-minutes from the city of Vancouver. The Frasier Valley soils are predominantly silty with a significant amount of organic material, ideal for growing wine grapes. The risk of frost and winter damage is low. The Frasier Valley has some of the finest agricultural lands in British Columbia.
In addition to the local grapes grown in and around Langley, Backyard sources other varieties such as Cabernet Franc and Pinot Gris from the warmer micro climate of the Okanagan Valley. Vineyards as far south as Osoyoos on the US border provide excellent fruit every vintage.
Utilizing a blend of art and science, Backyard Vineyards wines are handcrafted to be extraordinary, from big bold reds to their impeccable sparkling and white wines. They produce more than 20 varietals and blends, including a port-style wine. The entire operation from picking the fruit to bottling is by hand.
At Backyard Vineyards, they are quite proud of their laid-back, yet sophisticated tasting room with its own backyard – a backdrop for private tastings and other events. They are also very proud of their awards – and there have been many – both domestic and international. The awards in and of themselves are gratifying but more importantly, they serve to bring attention to these excellent, meticulously crafted wines.
