Barbadillo Manzanilla Salicornia

Barbadillo Manzanilla Salicornia

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Manzanilla Salicornia is part of Barbadillo’s organic wine collection which aims to offer a range of exquisite wines and preserve the local environment.
  • It is a dry white wine from Manzanilla de Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
  • Salicornia is the name chosen for their Manzanilla. This is both the Spanish and Latin name for Samphire, a saline plant strongly linked to the marshes and the coast of Cadiz.
  • The average age of the vines is 30 years.

Varietal Composition: 100% Palomino Fina

Elaboration: One vineyard is pruned using the double cordon method and the other uses the tradicional “vara y pulgar” method. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled stainless steel. Spontaneous fermentation with yeasts originating from the vineyard.

Tasting Notes: Pale in color with a bright fresh saline and sour bread aroma, zesty apple notes on the palate with a clean finish.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Founded in 1821, Barbadillo is without question Sanlucar de Barrameda’s most iconic producer of Sherry.  The thing we appreciate most about Barbadillo is that they’ve remained staunchly committed to tradition in the face of continued growth – Base wines are all still fermented in house through the company’s network of sixteen historic bodegas and the variety and depth of their soleras is breathtaking.  With the Sherry category seeing more excitement than ever before in history, Barbadillo is delivering big time, with a panoply of single vineyard and heirloom releases. From their groundbreaking ‘Solear’ Manzanilla to their almost impossible to procure ‘Reliquia’ series and everything in between, tasting through the Barbadillo lineup is an inspirational and energizing experience.
