Battle of Bosworth

Located in the McLaren Vale, South Australia, organic, single vineyard producer Battle of Bosworth had its beginning in 2001. Developed as a vineyard in the early 1970s by the Bosworth family, their roots produced wine as far back as the 1850s. The winery takes its name from the Battle of Bosworth, fought in 1485, where the last English king died, so ending the War of Roses. The region itself is unique in its close proximity to the sea and its being one of the first in South Australia to produce wine.

Joch Bosworth and Louise Hemsley-Smith use traditional vinification and sustainable, organic growing to reflect the flavor, texture, purity, and balance of the area’s natural characteristics. Armed with an associate degree in viniculture, Bosworth completed winemaking stints in both Napa and Willamette Valley vineyards, returning home to his native Australia as a viticulturist and winemaker prior to acquiring Battle of Bosworth. His discomfort with using synthetic chemicals and a desire to use old-fashioned farming techniques led him to be named “one of the most important organic winemakers in Australia” by Max Allen, wine columnist for the Australian Financial Review.
