Benmar Sand Dune Chardonnay

Benmar Sand Dune Chardonnay

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The Sand Dune Chardonnay is crafted from grapes grown in the Dundee Hills AVA, where well-draining soils, marine influences, and cool nights enhance the grapes’ flavors and structure. The vineyard is cultivated using 100 percent organic methods.
  • “Sand Dune” is an Oregon Coast-inspired Chardonnay from Dundee Hills, symbolizing resilience and connection.
  • The label features a photo by Jen Bybee that captures freedom and interconnectedness.

Varietal: 100% Chardonnay

Elaboration: The grapes were whole-cluster pressed at peak ripeness to preserve aromatics. Fermentation occurred in stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, balancing fruit expression with subtle oak influence. Partial malolactic fermentation added creaminess and complexity.

Tasting Notes: Delicate aromas of ripe pear, juicy apple, and citrus zest mingle with subtle notes of toasted almond, vanilla, and a hint of minerality. The palate is a harmonious blend of bright fruit flavors, creamy texture, and a refreshing acidity. Notes of lemon curd, white peach, orange peel, lemon verbena and a touch of hazelnut dance across the tongue. The finish is long and elegant, with a lingering impression of minerality and a subtle oak spice.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Greg Bybee has over fourteen years of experience in the wine industry, focusing on the Pacific Northwest. He discovered his passion for wine in 2008 while working at Rochioli Vineyards, where he learned to craft Pinot Noir.

As a founding member and curator for Vivino, he gained insights into what wine lovers seek from Oregon wines, which inspired his winemaking journey.

He named his venture “Benmar” after his children, Benben and Marecca, and his wife, Jen, whose photography appears on the labels. Together, they have introduced Benmar wines to the world.
