Blagden Wines Pinot Noir “Placida”
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Blagden Wines Pinot Noir “Placida” is sourced from a small, family-owned vineyard in Sebastopol, located in the Sonoma Coast appellation. The farm cultivates a variety of clones that thrive in ideal growing conditions and soil types for Pinot Noir.
- The vines were planted in 2003 on Goldridge soil, which consists of fine sandy loam over a subsoil of golden-yellow sandy loam and fractured sandstone.
- This vineyard benefits from excellent drainage and low soil fertility, making it well-suited for producing high-quality grapes.
Varietals: 100% Pinot Noir
Elaboration: Destemmed and crushed, then fermented in T bins and macro 48s. Five-day cold soak, native fermentation, pressed to tank and barreled the next day. Inoculated with Alpha. Clones include 777 and Unknown Clone (from Kenwood Estate). Aged in 100% French oak, 30% new barrels for 17 months.
Tasting Notes: This wine is medium garnet in color and shows dark and red, brambly fruits, verdant earth, and cola on the nose. The palate bursts forth with red and black fruits – essences of blackberry, pomegranate, red and black cherries, as an earthy background layers itself into your mouth. The rich, soft, and voluptuous mouthfeel leads to a long, lingering ¬finish – with elegantly integrated tannins.
