Bodega Y Cavas de Weinert Carrascal Corte Tinto
WHY WE LOVE IT
- The grapes were grown on the Luján de Cuyo & Maipu Vineyards.
- The winemaker is Hubert Weber, Bodega & Cavas de Weinert’s main oenologist.
- The vineyards, located at altitudes of 3,000 to 4,000 feet, benefit from a semi-arid climate and sandy loam soils.
- The vines used for this red blend range in age from 25 to 60 years.
Varietal Composition: 40% Malbec, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot
Tasting Notes: Complex red wine with notes of savory herbs like oregano and thyme, along with black olive tapenade on the nose. It offers a palate of dark and red fruits (like black fruit and plum) balanced with earthy notes, and hints of tobacco, chocolate, leather, and vanilla. The tannins are well-integrated, leading to a long, smooth finish with flavors of strawberry jam, tomato leaf, and balsamic.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND
Bodega Y Cavas de Weinert is located in Luján de Cuyo, a small town on the outskirts of the city of Mendoza, in western Argentina. It sits at the foot of the Andes Mountains in a region world-famous for its wine production, in particular for the Malbec grape. The winery was founded in 1975 by Don Bernardo Weinert, a Brazilian of German origin. With “wein,” the German word for wine as part of his name, it seemed inevitable that Don Bernardo would make it his life’s work.
His fascination with wine prompted him to take on an extensive and difficult restoration of an old, but architecturally significant winery, originally built in 1890 by a Spanish family. He was joined in the venture by Rául de la Mota, the father of modern Argentinian winemaking, and named the country’s best oenologist of the 20th Century.
