Bodega Pirineos Orange
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Pirineos Orange, from Somontano, is a coppery yellow hue because it is fermented in contact with its skins.
- It comes from Parajes de Lantaron, at the foot of the Candelera mountain range which has predominantly sandy soils.
- The average vine=age is 15 years.
Varietal Composition: 85% Macabeo, 15% Gewurztraminer
Elaboration: Trellis trained and cordon pruning with buds per arm and 2 shoots per bud. Fermented in stainless steel at a controlled temperature of 20ºC for 10 days. Part of the wine undergoes direct pressing with stems. The rest comes from fermentation with its skins and infrequent pump- overs to maintain finesse. One week of maceration with the skins.
Tasting Notes: Great finesse, freshness and expression. Aromas of candied orange, citrus fruits, quince, etc. Flavorful and with good acidity. Creamy and stimulating. With a lot of flavor and significant structure.

It lies within the Somontano wine appellation. The region was granted DOP status in 1984. The co-op was founded in 1993, but growers had been lobbying for the DOP since 1964.
Members of the Cooperative number 150, representing families in 23 small villages to the north and west of Barbastro, which is the main town of the Rio Vero valley.
