Casal de Armán
Bodegas Casal de Armán is a project that was born in the late 90s, but which belongs to the fourth generation of a family group that has been producing wines in the Ribeiro since the late 19th century.
The Ribeiro Denomination of Origin (DO), one of the oldest in Galicia, which means “river bank” in Galician, is one of the five existing wine DOs in Galicia. It is in the northwestern area of the province of Ourense and at the confluence of the valleys formed by the Miño, Avia and Arnoia rivers. The climate is one of the factors that characterises these varieties and styles of wines. In addition, its soils are characterised by being formed from granitic materials, with sandy-loam textures and, to a lesser extent, sandy-loam. Characteristic of Ribeiro is the “sábrego” , decomposed granite, which is very abundant in this area.
The need for appropriate facilities to carry out this adventure led to the restoration of an old 18th century manor house that was in ruins. The González Vázquez family bought the property and, after eight years of hard work, today it houses a splendorous rural hotel, a Galician cuisine restaurant and its wine cellar.
The building that houses the wine cellar is located in an annex to the old manor house. Built following the Galician architectural tradition, the winery’s facilities combine simple stone and fine wood with the most modern technology in winemaking machinery: stainless steel tanks, pneumatic presses, selection table, peristaltic transfer pump, temperature control equipment and more.
