Celler Unio Tendresa

Celler Unio Tendresa

  • Qualified Designation of Origin Priorat is one of the world’s most prestigious wine-producing regions.
  • This uniquely flavored wine comes from organically farmed, old, traditionally terraced vines that sit atop crumbly slate.
  • The average production per vine is low often less than 1 kg, and this confers excellent properties upon the grapes, which become pure gold in the hands
    of a good winemaker.

Varietal Composition: 50%Grenache, 50% Carignan

Elaboration: The vines grow in poor, rocky soils. They are planted on mountain slopes, in terraces at an altitude of between 100 and 700 meters above sea level. Most of the land in Priorat is composed of silica slate, known by the localsas “llicorella”, and it is the llicorella that gives Priorat wines their unique
character. The wine is aged 4-months in oak.

Tasting Notes: Dark ruby red in color with hints of purple. Aroma of red fruits, with toasted notes and hints of raisins. In the mouth it is full-bodied and potent, concentrated and reminiscent of preserves and cocoa. Very long and well-balanced aftertaste.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Today, the Qualified Designation of Origin Priorat is one of the world’s most prestigious wine-producing regions. Priorat is one of only two regions in Spain with the prestigious DOCa designation, the other being Rioja. The name Priorat comes from the word priory, a salute to the dedicated Carthusian monks who were cultivating grapes in the region as far back as the 12th century.

The growers who comprise Cellars Unió are committed to their land, its people, and to making excellent wines. To demonstrate their commitment, they practice sustainable, environmentally friendly viticulture. They continually invest in improving their winemaking facilities, while supporting their cooperative with technical services, advice, and training in everything from farm management to IT, legal, and supply services.
