Champagne A. Levasseur
Champagne A. Levasseur was started in the 1940s by Albert Levasseur. At that time the estate was focused on supplying large champagne houses with Pinot Meunier, a traditional blending grape.
Today A. Levasseur, under the guidance of Albert’s grandson David, produces a modest 30,000 bottles of champagne per year. The grapes, organically grown, mostly Pinot Meunier, come from the winery’s 4 hectares (9.88 acres) of vineyards, consisting of 18 plots situated around the villages of Cuchéry, Fleury-la-Rivière and Châtillon-sur-Marne.
David began working at his family vineyards around Cuchery in the Vallée de la Marne in 1992 and officially took over the estate in 2003. Under David’s guidance the vineyards were certified organic in 2020. His style of winemaking combines the traditional and the contemporary. This includes organic fertilizers and a shift towards vineyard sustainability.
David’s creative approach to winemaking celebrates the old world dedication to varietal characteristics that expresses the nature of the soil, while at the same time incorporating new ideas about equipment, sustainability, and viticultural science.
