PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Lucien Moutard began producing Champagne under his own name in 1952 from grapes grown on his family’s land in the Côte-des-Bar.  Lucien loved and defended the Côte-des-Bar terroir and its protected area, and created a regional union in Aube protecting the designation. The special features of the region mean that the vines have to be planted on very steep marl, limestone, and clay based hillsides.

Current proprietor/winemaker François Moutard learned very quickly from his father and has been at the helm of the company since the mid-1980’s.  The definition of the word “hedonist” seems to match François perfectly – Not just because he is a simple believer in pleasure, but because he is driven to share it with as many people as possible.  Through Champagne Moutard, François has found something to help him spread happiness.
