Chateau de la Cantrie

Chateau de la Cantrie Muscadet

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Classical Muscadet from a storied property situated in one of the region’s best zones made by one of the region’s most loved vignerons!

Varietal Composition: 100% Melon de Bourgogne

Elaboration: A part of the 11 hectares is harvested by hand. The wine making process is exclusively “sur lie” in stainless steel vats. The aging on the lees and the technique of “batonnage” brings more complexity and fruit to the wine. Bottling occurs in early spring.

Tasting Notes:  Floral and fruity, with flinty notes.  Layers of citrus on the palate, crisp acidity.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Advantageously centered in Saint Fiacre, Chateau de la Cantrie dates back to the early 1700’s and consists of 11 hectares of vines.  After the unfortunate passing of proprietor Laurent Bossis in 2015, the winery was acquired by Bernard Chéreau, a figure much loved both in France and abroad for his deft hand with Mélon de Bourgogne.  The domaine’s vines are planted on terraces facing the Sèvre River in the village of Saint Fiacre and the soil is mainly composed of schist.  Here at Grape this has been our “go-to” Muscadet producer for over 30 years.
