Château d’Yquem

Château d’Yquem, the only Premier Cru Supérieur in Sauternes, has a rich history that dates back to the Middle Ages. It was owned by English kings before returning to French control. The Sauvage family acquired the estate in 1593, followed by the Lur-Saluces family in 1785. Then, in 1999, it was acquired by the LVMH group.

The outstanding terroir of the Sauternes appellation benefits from an exceptional climate and geological features. The Château is renowned for its legendary sweet wine, made primarily from Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes, which undergo botrytization (noble rot). This wine is celebrated for its richness, complexity, and remarkable aging potential, and it is considered by many to be the finest sweet wine in the world. Historical figures such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Queen Victoria were among its admirers. The LVMH group is dedicated to preserving the legendary Yquem story by balancing tradition with modern advancements.
