  • The average age of the vineyard is 25 years. Sustainable viticulture practiced throughout the vineyard.

Varietal Composition: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon

Elaboration: The terroir for this wine is gravel (small gravel up to 4 metres deep). Vineyards lying on south-west facing slopes. The wine is harvested by machine with integrated sorting machine. The ripeness levels carefully monitored before picking. The wine is placed in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Prefermentation in cold soak for improved fruit extraction. Fermentation temperatures are controlled to finetune the desired type of wine.
Automatic pump-over equipment working around the clock in the tank room to optimize aromatics (only very few Châteaux have these facilities).

Tasting Notes: The wine at Château Sissan reveals an attractive garnet hue. With its open bouquet and full-bodied palate, this Cadillac-Côtes de Bordeaux wine entices with its notes of black and red berry fruits, which continue on the palate to glorious effect. Supple and concentrated Cadillac-Côtes de Bordeaux wine showing lovely aromatic expression.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

In 1990, the Yung family, who also own Château Grimont in the same appellation, bought Château Sissan in the hills of Camblanes, in South-East Bordeaux. Behind the immense wrought-iron gates, along a shaded path, a beautiful limestone facade comes into view, in the true neoclassical architectural style of 18th century Bordeaux. The terroir boasts many advantages, with several small gravel plots located on the slopes.

Today, two brothers, Paul and Jean Yung, have not skimped on the necessary investments to elevate Château Sissan among the finest in the appellation. The wines display the same generous character of the owners, all the elegance of this beautiful 18th century residence and the typical smooth character of the undulating soils of Côtes de Bordeaux.
