Château Jérémie Terroir des Corbieres

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The vines are grown in Pyrenean Piedmont sandstone and red clay.
  • The vine ages are Syrah-25 years old, Grenache-31 years old, Carignan-51 years old, Mourvèdre-19 years old.
  • The vines are cut via Cord Royat and are partly mechanically and partly manually harvested. The climate is Mediterranean with an altitude of 80-100 meters.

Varietal Composition: 45% Carignan, 30% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre

Elaboration: Separate vinification for each grape variety. For the Carignan, after selective sorting, the intact bunches are placed in vats and subjected to carbonic maceration. Grenache and Syrah are fermented for 5 days under controlled temperature, followed by a 3-week maceration. After the malolactic fermentation we blend the wines. 30% of the wine is then aged in American and French oak barrels for 6 months.

Tasting Notes: Beautiful aromatic intensity where black fruits and figs dominate. Supple and fruity; notes of cherry and fresh nuts, supple and integrated tannins. Keep between 4 and 7 years.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Domaines Paul Mas owes its beginnings to Auguste Mas who bought the first family vineyard in 1892. Auguste was the great-grandfather of current owner Jean-Claude Mas. The business is named for Jean-Claude’s father, Paul, who gave his son 35 hectares in 1987. Now Domaine Paul Mas owns several wineries in the region, including Château Jérémie.

Château Jérémie is located in the charming village of Fabrezan in the Corbières region, at the foot of L’Alaric, It lies only about 20 miles from the Mediterranean Sea. The cellar, refurbished in 2014 is an architectural work of art in the center of the village. The vineyards extend over 68 ha in the appellations of Languedoc, Corbières, and Corbières Boutenac.
