Château L'Alouette Lalande de Pomerol

Château L’Alouette Lalande de Pomerol

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Lalande-de-Pomerol is a wine appellation of the Right Bank of the Bordeaux region in southwestern France.
  • Château L’Alouette is in the district of Guitres, on the fringes of the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation.
  • Gravel soils are a distinctive feature of the vineyards in Pomerol. Merlot grows more successfully on this type of soil.

Varietal Composition: 100% Merlot

Elaboration: The terroir is sandy-gravel.

Tasting Notes: Château L’Alouette is defined by its smooth and rounded character. With its pronounced, black-tinged, garnet appearance, the wine is characterized by its elegant bouquet of violets and red berry fruit aromas redolent of blackcurrant. Its smooth, concentrated structure evolves with charm. The wine lingers persistently on the appealing finish.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

For 20 years, Jean-Claude Giraud worked with one of the finest winemakers in the appellation Lalande-de-Pomerol, a village in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France. In 1990 he took over his father’s business, and in 2005, he purchased Château L’Alouette.

Jean-Claude remains meticulous in his quest for excellence and utilizes handcrafted practices such as frequent manual canopy management and severe harvest selection. His vines are 100% Merlot. The winery uses small-capacity tanks to precisely manage the process.
