Chateau Montaud

Château Montaud

Château Montaud is the home of Vignobles Francois Ravel. It is a family-owned winery founded in 1964. The beautiful vineyard is located within the Côtes de Provence AOC, the largest appellation in the Provence wine region of southeastern France.

For three generations, the Ravel family has carried on the winemaking tradition which began with the Romans more than two thousand years ago. Over the centuries, castles appeared, then were destroyed and rebuilt several times. The current château, dating back to 1858, is situated on the site of an old Roman villa, the remains of which were found during a restructuring of the vineyard.

The estate’s 80 hectares of vines are grown on long schist and sandstone terraces in the heart of the Maures Mountains. The domain’s Permian soils are poor, requiring the vines to root deeply and benefit from the unique characteristics of the terroir. Grape varieties include Grenache, Cinsault, Tibouren, Syrah, Rolle, and Sémillon.

The principles of production include low yields, no irrigation, and harvest at the point of perfect ripeness. The estate utilizes advanced technology while adhering to traditional values. The appellation is known primarily for its rosé wines. The Château’s wines, bottled in its cellars, are exported throughout the world.
