Domaine de Geais Cotes du Marmandais

Domaine de Geais Cotes du Marmandais

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Domaine des Geais consists of 3 hectares of vineyards located in the Côtes du Marmandais, an appellation just south of Bordeuax, located between the Garonne and Dordogne Rivers in Southwest, France.
  • The Domaine is run by the Boissonneau family, who have been making wine since 1839, primarily in Bordeaux. Today, the sixth generation of family members run the estate, led by Pascal Boissonneau.
  • Aging potential of 5-7 years.
  • Certified Organic. Certified Biodynamic. Vegan Friendly.

Varietal Composition: 37% Arbouriou, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Syrah and 9% Merlot

Elaboration: Green manure seeding, soil tillage. Eco-pasturing with local breed of sheep. Apiary for over 15 years. Pest management by trapping.

Short maceration (one week), depending on the variety, at variable temperatures from 10 to 12°C. After the run off, the temperature is elevated until 20°c in order to start the fermenting process. We keep the temperature
at 24°c during the fermentation to create the best conditions for the natural yeasts.

Tasting Notes: Bouquet of fresh blackcurrant fruit, with a good intensity of flavors. A full-bodied and well-balanced wine, rich and concentrated.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Eleanor of Aquitaine (then Queen of England) ordered monks to plant the first vines on this 72 hectare estate in 1150.  The property stretches over the right bank of the Garonne river across the hillsides of Saint Michel de Lapujade, and benefits from the mild and humid air that rises up from the sea and travels down the Garonne valley.

Pierre Boissonneau purchased the property in 1839, and descendants Christian, Pascal, Phillippe, and Nico have transformed it into one of the best places in Bordeaux for value driven organic wine.  Moulin de Ferrand has long been a staple for us here at Grape and if you aren’t yet familiar with these it is about time you climb aboard the train.
