Cuilleron Cornas Le Village
WHY WE LOVE IT
- This cuvée is a blend of three plots located in the village of Cornas, in the localities of Les Côtes, Reynard, and Cayret.
- Organic, Eco-friendly farming. No insecticides are used.
Varietal Composition: 100% Syrah
Elaboration: These Syrah vines are on granite terraces in high density (8,000-10,000 vines per ha). Treatments limited to the greatest degree depending on the weather. No insecticides are used to preserve biodiversity. Minimal organic fertilizer may be applied. Precise control of vigor and yields is maintained through leaf stripping and a green harvest for better grape maturation. Disbudding occurs in spring.
The grapes are harvested manually. Sorting, crushing, and partial destemming occurs in the cellar. Fermentation is in open vats for about three weeks with controlled temperature, punching down and regular pumping over. Malolactic fermentation is in barrels with natural yeasts. This wine matures in 18 months in barrels. Blending of the different plots happens before bottling.
Cuilleron Cornas Le Village is best enjoyed young with fruity aromas (3 to 4 years) or evolving aromas (between 6 and 10 years).
Tasting Notes: Nose of ripe black fruits, spices and undergrowth. Balanced mouth with a round and greedy evolution. The finish is long with ripe and spicy tannins.
