Decibel Pinot Noir

Decibel Pinot Noir

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Decibel Pinot Noir is produced from Dublin St. vineyard, a single vineyard that is a organically run, dry farmed block with unique clay soils over the top of what was once a free draining river bed.
  • The grapes were pick slowly over a 2 week period to optimize ripeness and freshness.
  • Vegan friendly and certified sustainable.

Varietal Composition: 100% Pinot Noir

Elaboration: Fermented in small open top fermenters with daily punchdowns. 21 days of skin contact. Some ferments were inoculated and others were fermented wild. After ferment, the wine was pressed to French oak barriques (15% new oak), and left unsulphured over winter. In the spring the barrels were allowed to warm up naturally and finish malolactic fermentation.

Tasting Notes: Dark and brooding in color. Oak-spiced nose with notes of clove and dried rose petal, giving way to tar and dried fruit aromas. The palate is fruit-forward with layers of roasted strawberries, black cherry cola, and the fresh acidity of a ripe damson plum. Fine tannins.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Daniel (dB) Brennan, a native of New Jersey, founded Decibel Wines in 2008 in Hastings, New Zealand, a city on the east coast of the North Island, in the Hawke’s Bay region. After touring Europe and America as manager of a rock band, he found himself at his family’s restaurant in Philadelphia where he was inspired by his Sicilian grandfather, a cooper and winemaker, to trade music for wine.

He arrived in his adopted country virtually penniless but with determination to bring his vision to life. He studied Oenology & Viticulture in Hawke’s Bay and worked with some of the region’s top producers, as well as at wineries and vineyards in California, Oregon, and Italy.
