Giunta Crunchy Red
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Crunchy by name, crunchy by nature!
- Giunta Crunchy Red is a blend of organically grown Pinot Noir from the Mangtahi Terraces in the Maraekakaho region and certified organic Merlot and Malbec are grown in the Bridge Pa sub-region of Hawke’s Bay.
- The wine is vegan friendly and certified sustainable.
Varietal Composition: 56% Pinot Noir, 33% Merlot, 11% Malbec
Elaboration: Destemmed. The fruit was put in to separate tanks, by varietal, as they were picked on different days. 3 to 5 days of cold soak occurred and then the wines began to ferment naturally or ‘wild’. Ferment temperatures where slightly cooler than normal red wine ferments to allow for less tannin and extraction from the skins. This was to ensure a more fruity wine suitable for younger drinking. Post ferment maceration was also shorter than normal, again to allow for a lighter style of red.
Tasting Notes: The brightness of pomegranate and raspberry are out to play, supported by lightly herbal…it’s a moreish delight. Like biting into a Black Doris plum, the tannins are very soft and supple giving in to the ripe and fruity juice that has just a hint of spice. Think of this as a grown up berry iced tea!

PRODUCER BACKGROUND
Daniel (dB) Brennan, a native of New Jersey, founded Decibel Wines in 2008 in Hastings, New Zealand, a city on the east coast of the North Island, in the Hawke’s Bay region. After touring Europe and America as manager of a rock band, he found himself at his family’s restaurant in Philadelphia where he was inspired by his Sicilian grandfather, a cooper and winemaker, to trade music for wine.
He arrived in his adopted country virtually penniless but with determination to bring his vision to life. He studied Oenology & Viticulture in Hawke’s Bay and worked with some of the region’s top producers, as well as at wineries and vineyards in California, Oregon, and Italy.
