DeMorgenzon DMZ Rosé

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Vegan friendly.
  • The grapes used to produce this wine were sourced exclusively from DeMorgenzon’s own vineyards, noted for their weathered granite soils and cool, South-facing slopes.
  • Trellised vineyards are managed with open canopies to ensure naturally high levels of acidity and flavor concentration.
  • Sunlight exposure allows these grapes to be harvested earlier with a lower sugar level and lighter color essential to making world-class rosé.

Varietal Composition: 47% Grenache Noir, 28% Mataro, 13% Syrah, 10% Grenache blanc, 2% Viognier

Elaboration: Hand harvested fruit is gently crushed, then immediately pressed to avoid excessive color extraction. Cold fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by a minimum of 10 months ageing on the yeast lees before bottling preparations commence.

Tasting Notes: Pale blush in color, this serious Mediterranean styled Rosé is packed with summer fruit and floral aroma. The finely balanced palate displays fresh acidity, chalky texture and a mouthwatering, savory finish.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

All wine estates in the Western Cape area of South Africa are beautiful, but DeMorgenzon, which dates back to 1679, in Stellenbosch is extraordinary. The 91 hectare estate is owned by Wendy and Hylton Appelbaum, internationally recognized leaders in business and philanthropy.

DeMorgenzon, “the morning sun,” is the first part of the Stellenboschkloof Valley to see the sun because of its high altitude and aspects. The Applebaums refer to their estate as the “garden vineyards.” In spring, specially chosen wildflowers grow between the vines in the belief that a biodiverse and ecologically sensitive environment produces infinitely better grapes, and that the essence of the gardens is captured in every bottle of wine.
