DIONYSTIC For Bruce Syrah

DIONYSTIC ‘For Bruce’ Syrah + Viognier Deux Vert Vineyard

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • “For Bruce Syrah” was DIONYSTIK’s first wine.
  • Syrah is one of the most promising red grapes in the Willamette Valley. The fruit comes from the Deux Vert vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, Willamette Valley.
  • The vines are 25 years of age. The soils are Melbourne, sandstone and the elevation is 465 ft.
  • The natural convection from the egg shape helped to create this incredible array of ‘Garrigue’ notes in the wine.
  • Vegan friendly.

Varietal: 90% Syrah, 10% Viognier

Elaboration: Hand harvested. Fermented partially whole cluster and on skin for 30 days. A “stem-back” process was used on the wine, whereby select stems were added to the co-fermentation of Syrah and Viognier. Aged for 30 months in Tonnellerie Quintessence wooden eggs. Unfined. Unfiltered.

Tasting Notes: Herbal aromatics combined with explosive black and blue fruit notes. Reminiscent of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

The DIONYSTIC brand from Golden Cluster is a blend of grapes from two vineyards in Willamette Valley, Oregon. One of the vineyards grafted mostly Iberian grapes (Tempranillo, Syrah, Grenache, Alvarinho, and Viognier) onto their 30+ year old rooted Pinot Noir vines because the Northern Willamette heat made it difficult to grow Pinot Noir. The second vineyard is one of the first to be intentionally planted to Syrah and Viognier. Golden Cluster has sourced these grapes to develop the DIONYSTIC brand and showcase what “Oregon Wine” is today.

Golden Cluster, of Willamette Valley, Oregon is the vision of owner/winemaker Jeff Vejr. Established in 2013, all of Vejr’s wines are produced under the Golden Cluster umbrella, but Golden Cluster also represents some individual wineries throughout the area.

Today, Veijr produces his wines at the David Hill Winery, which was originally the Charles Coury Vineyard & Winery, one of the first vineyards planted in Willamette Valley after Prohibition. The Golden Cluster name is a nod to the memory of Charles Coury and the Semillon grape variety.
