Domaine Anita Morgon Chateau-Gaillard
WHY WE LOVE IT
- The 70-year-old vines produce a deep colored wine with robust flavors.
- Grapes are hand harvested, carefully selected, and Domaine Anita uses sustainable viticulture practices.
Varietal Composition: 100% Gamay
Elaboration: Lieux dit Chateau Gaillard, located on the village of Villié Morgon, comes from crystalline, friable soils allowing the vines to take root deeply into the soil.
Grown at high altitude (250 meters), this Gamay vineyard is 70 years old and the planting density is 9,000 foot/ha. Using the Gobelet training system (up to 10 eyes), the grapes are harvested and sorted manually. Vintification is 70% whole cluster and 30% destemmed. Total maceration is 10 days. Aging takes place in concrete tanks for 6 months and the wine remains for at leaste 4 months in bottle before it is released.
Tasting Notes: This plot located on the Château-Gaillard plateau produces bunches with small berries each year. It is developed into a robust wine with a deep color. Its expressive aromas of stone fruits, predominantly plum and cherry, are an introduction to a powerful, structured but velvety palate.
