Domaine d'Astruc Malbec

Domaine D’Astruc d’A Malbec Lot 19

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The vinification last only 6 days as the focus is to develop the freshness of the fruit.
  • The finesse of the skin allows a full and rapid extraction of color and produces a soft-tannin mouth feel .

Varietal Composition: 100% Malbec

Elaboration: Destemming of the grape, each lot is vinified separately. 10 days under temperature control (82°F maximum). The blending is made in November before putting the wine in barrels. 30% of the wine is aged in new oak barrel for 4 months.

Tasting Notes: Deep purple red with ruby tints. Powerful and complex with a quintessence of floral, plums, mocha and black current aromas with toasted notes. Aromas of clay, sweet pickling spices, and mulberries with a tangy, fruity yet dry medium body and a black cherry jam, aloe, and grilled pepper and lime accented finish with chewy tannins.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Domaine Astruc was founded by Jean Astruc in 1862, and the property is situated at the foot of the Pyrenean Mountain range, between 200 and 300 metres above sea level in the Limoux region. Domaine Astruc comprises 80 hectares in AOP Limoux (coastal zone), AOP Malepère, and IGP Pays d’Oc, of which 25 hectares are certified organic and 55 are farmed sustainably. Jean-Claude Mas sourced grapes here for years and acquired the property in 2002. Since then Jean Claude has brought his inimitable enthusiasm and charisma to this property, and over the last fifteen years Domaine Astruc has emerged as one of France’s leaders when it comes to IGP Pays d’Oc that over-delivers on value. Third-generation Jacques Astruc continues to manage all farming there to this day.
