Domaine Bigonneau Reuilly Rouge

Domaine Bigonneau Reuilly Rouge

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Red wines from Reuilly can only be produced with one grape varietal: Pinot Noir
  • Very approachable and varietally correct Pinot Noir, sold at a fraction of the price compared to its Burgundian neighbors to the east.

Varietal Composition: 100% Pinot Noir

Elaboration: The salk is eliminated and separated from grape to avoid herby taste in the wine. Then, the harvest is sent to temperature controlled tanks at 77° F for fermentation. Maceration time is between 1 and 2 weeks. Then, pumping over pressing at a very low pressure. It is aged on the lees in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks.

Tasting Notes: Great aromatic intensity with floral, strawberry, and cherry flavors. Soft and smooth mouth feel.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Located between Méreau and Brinay and isolated in the middle of the fields of cereals, Domaine Gerard Bigonneau vinifies both AOC Quincy and Reuilly. This estate, from a family-owned agricultural and wine-growing estate, has been in existence for several generations. At the turn of the 80s, Gerard Bigonneau seized the opportunity to build a vineyard on the slopes of the town of Reuilly. The vineyard covers 16 hectares and makes it possible to turn their passion into a profession that brings pleasure and subtlety.

In 2006, he consolidated his efforts and built a purpose built cellar on La Chagnat and brought in his daughter, Virginie to take control of production. Prior to this, Virginie had been the oenologue at the Cave Brinay, having studied in Dijon as well as having work experience in cellars in Champagne, Burgundy and Alsace. The consolidation to a single cellar and the arrival of Virginie, however, has brought about a real focus to the wines.
