Bosquet des Papes Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge ‘A la Gloire de mon Grand-Pere’
WHY WE LOVE IT
- The Bosquet des Papes “À la Gloire de mon Grand-Père” is an acclaimed, full-bodied Châteauneuf-du-Pape from the Southern Rhône Valley, primarily made from old-vine Grenache.
- Its name means “To the Glory of my Grandfather,” honoring the Boiron family’s winemaking tradition since 1860.
- The grapes come from 60 to 70-year-old vines harvested at full ripeness in the northern Gardioles district of the appellation.
Varietal Composition: 98% Grenache Noir, 2% Cinsault et Clairette
Elaboration: The wine is made in temperature-controlled concrete vats with 50% destemming and cold pre-fermentation. It undergoes a 35-day maceration with careful daily punch-downs and pump-overs, then ages for 12 to 15 months in large oak casks.
Tasting Notes: A lovely red hue with brilliant highlights. On the nose, this Châteauneuf-du-Pape reveals spicy aromas. The palate is unctuous and generous.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND
Domaine Bosquet des Papes is a respected family winery that has been run by the Boiron family for six generations, since 1860. Located in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region of the Southern Rhône Valley in France, the 32-hectare estate is renowned for its age-worthy red wines. Founded by Emmanuel Boiron, it is now managed by Nicolas and Jeanne-Claire Boiron. Originally called Clos Chantemerle, it was renamed Bosquet des Papes in 1966, meaning “the pope’s grove.”
The winery emphasizes traditional Rhône winemaking practices, focusing on producing wines that express the region’s unique terroir. Its vineyards span around 40 parcels, with an average vine age of 50 years, and some vines ranging from 70 to 100 years. The diverse soils include red sandstone, rolled river pebbles, sandy soils, and clay-limestone subsoils.
