Bosquet des Papes Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 'Tradition'

Bosquet des Papes Chateauneuf-du-Pape ‘Tradition’ Blanc

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The Bosquet des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc ‘Tradition’ is a rare, elegant, and highly sought-after white wine from the Southern Rhône Valley in France.
  • It is grown in the iconic galets roulés (rounded river stones) and clay-limestone soils of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which help the vines retain moisture while providing excellent sun exposure.
  • The average age of the vines is 35-45 years.

Varietal Composition: 45% Clairette, 35% Grenache Blanc, 20% Bourboulenc

Elaboration: Skin maceration with whole clusters is followed by cold fermentation at 16°C to 20°C. Seventy percent ferments in stainless-steel tanks, while 30% ages in demi-muids and oak barrels for 6 to 8 months, with regular lees stirring (bâtonnage).

Tasting Notes: A lovely pale yellow hue with brilliant highlights. This wine offers a superb aromatic nose. The palate is rich and full-bodied.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Domaine Bosquet des Papes is a respected family winery that has been run by the Boiron family for six generations, since 1860. Located in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region of the Southern Rhône Valley in France, the 32-hectare estate is renowned for its age-worthy red wines. Founded by Emmanuel Boiron, it is now managed by Nicolas and Jeanne-Claire Boiron. Originally called Clos Chantemerle, it was renamed Bosquet des Papes in 1966, meaning “the pope’s grove.”

The winery emphasizes traditional Rhône winemaking practices, focusing on producing wines that express the region’s unique terroir. Its vineyards span around 40 parcels, with an average vine age of 50 years, and some vines ranging from 70 to 100 years. The diverse soils include red sandstone, rolled river pebbles, sandy soils, and clay-limestone subsoils.
