Domaine Felines Jourdan Rose Les Fruites
WHY WE LOVE IT
- The Domain of Félines, in Mèze, on the banks of the Bassin de Thau.
- The vineyard benefits from the humid benefits of the sea on summer nights, giving the wines their maritime character.
- The soils are clay-limestone, gently sloping facing South-East towards the Basin.
Varietal Composition: Grenache, Syrah, Oeillade
Elaboration: Mild and dry winter from January. Fresh start of spring followed by a month of June when we experienced a heat peak. This episode of heat wave arrived a little early in the season. The berries are smaller than usual. A summer of drought and temperature records. This vintage is very different from the previous one, the yields are low but qualitative.
Mechanical night harvest. Destemming. Pneumatic pressing, settling, slow fermentation at 17/18°C for 6 weeks.
Tasting Notes: Very pale color, peach skin. The nose is expressive on the amyl register, English candy. The mouth is tangy and thirst-quenching. Ideal companion for summer and lightly spiced dishes.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND
Headed by Claude Jourdan, a female winemaker, Domaine Félines Jourdan is a pioneering estate in the Languedoc region of southwestern France. It has been owned by the winemaking family since 1983. However, the Jourdans go back several generations in the area. The winery is one of the few independent producers in the area, owning vineyards in three terroirs of the appellation: Félines, Les Cadastres, and La Coulette.
Félines, with just the right mix of clay and sand, was once more famous for making bricks than for wine. The area was also a Roman pathway leading from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic ocean. The vineyards are peppered with old Roman markers that guided their way.
