Domaine Gerard Fiou Sancerre Rouge “Le Grand Roc”
WHY WE LOVE IT
- “Grand Roc” is the name of one of the best vineyards in the village of Saint-Satur.
- A selection of very old vines (over 60-years old!) of Pinot Noir planted on flinty, clay soil, with South-Southeast exposure.
- A mineral length gives it finesse and an aging potential of 6 to 8 years.
Varietal Composition: 100% Pinot Noir
Elaboration: The alcoholic fermentation is made in stainless steel temperature-controlled tanks (10 to 14 days) between 79 and 89 °F.
Tasting Notes: Sancerre “Le Grand Roc” develops aromas of cherry and plum, slightly jammy, on a light structure and a melted woody taste.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND
Domaine Gerard Fiou is a nine hectare family estate which was created several generations ago by Gerard Fiou’s ancestors. Fiou serves as an important piece of our Loire portfolio, as the estate sits on the famous flint filled hills of St-Satur in the eastern portion of the Sancerre appellation – Only a small percentage of terroir in Sancerre is made up of this soil type, which is much more common in neighboring Pouilly-Fume. This, combined with unusually old vines, means memorable Sancerre with deep minerality.
