Domaine Gonzague Maurice La Folie

Owner of Château de Grandchamp, Clos du Pavillon, Le Pavillon de Saint-Jacques and La Folie, Gonzague Maurice is a winemaker in Montagne near Saint-Emilion. He came to viticulture through a love of wine. Maurice started in the wine trade by working at Cave des Vins de Sancerre and then Ambrosia/Chateau Maucamps. He also gained some experience in the vineyards and wineries of Bordeaux, including Château Poupille, Domaine de Chevalier and Domaine de l’Ile Margaux.

Maurice opened his own winery in 2006. His Estate is located on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. It boasts a small 18th-century tower known as a “folie” in architecture. This tower officially served as a stopover for pilgrims, but also and above all as a bachelor pad for the neighboring Château!

Today, Maurice manages 12 ha of vines spread over the Montagne Saint-Emilion (7.5 ha), Puisseguin Saint-Emilion (2.5 ha) and Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux (2 ha) appellations. He practices organic-certified viticulture that respects the environment and people. He does not use insecticides or anti-rot products. His vineyards are harvested manually, and vinification takes place in raw concrete vats, where the wines are aged in concrete vats and a few wine barrels, with moderate sulfiting.
