Domaine Laurent Martray
Laurent Martray is the third generation of vintners in his family. After studying oenology and viticulture, he started making wine in 1987. In 2019, he purchased some of the finest terroirs within the Brouilly and Côte-de-Brouilly appellations in the famed Beaujolais region of eastern France.
Through his brother, Christian, one of the most recognized sommeliers in France, Laurent was able to meet and learn from some legendary French vintners.
Laurent tends vines in three distinct vineyards covering 18 hectares on the Combiaty hillside facing east and southeast, as well as on the slope of Mont Brouilly. Elevations range from 250 to 350 meters. The vines are 50-100+ years old, some of the oldest in Beaujolais and they are densely planted in harsh granitic soil.
Laurent’s viticulture methods are strictly traditional with an emphasis on wines that respect and express the terroir. He uses no pesticides and mostly treats the vineyard with copper and sulfur. Hand harvesting takes place after close observation and tasting of the fruit.
Domain Laurent Martray follows a Burgundian winemaking philosophy of long macerations and long aging (10-12 months) in oak barrels or casks. All wines are bottled without filtration.
