Echeverria Carmenere Gran Reserva
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Carmenere proprietor´s single vineyard grapes, from ungrafted selected clones of pre-phylloxera French rootstock.
- 100% hand-picked in 18kg boxes and carried to the estate winery immediately after cutting.
- An extremely rich and velvety wine from Chile’s signature grape variety.
Varietal Composition: 95% Carmenere 5% Cabernet Sauvignon
Elaboration: Fermented to dryness in stainless steel tanks for 10 days at 77 – 83°F with selected yeasts. Extended skin maceration for an additional 6 days. 100% malolactic fermentation. Aged in 225 liter French used barrels between 10 and 12 months.
Tasting Notes: Garnet red with violet gleams. Combines intense aromas of ripe cherries and blackberries, with hints of red bell peppers, dried fruit and spices. Smooth and full-bodied, it has a round and delicate mouthful due to its oak-ageing.
The Echeverría family came to Chile in the 1750s, from a little town called Amezqueta in the Basque region of Spain. They established agricultural properties just north of Santiago, where they planted vineyards, among other crops. Over time vineyard holdings have grown to 65 hectares, and Viña Echeverría remains a family-owned and managed estate winery, occupying the same location for as long as anyone can remember. Family owned wineries are, as we know, not at all the norm in Chile. This sets Echeverría apart and it shows in the personality of their finished wines. Roberto Echeverría Jr continues to lead all activities here and if you get the chance to meet him make sure you do so!
