Echeverria “Propuesta” Cabernet Blend
WHY WE LOVE IT
- The vineyards are located in Maipo Alto in the Central Valley. Alto Maipo reaches into the foothills and produces some of Chile’s leading Cabernet Sauvignons.
- Central Maipo is one of the country’s oldest and most diverse productive regions.
Varietal Composition: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon 10% Petit Verdot 5% Cabernet Franc
Elaboration: Hand-picked in 18kg boxes and carried to the estate winery immediately after cutting. Fermented in stainless steel tanks for 7-10 days at 77 – 83°F controlled temperature with selected and native yeasts (80/20). Extended maceration for additional 3-5 days. 100% malolactic fermentation. Aged in 225 liter new French oak barrels for 10-12 months
Tasting Notes: This new winemaker’s proposal from sustainable winery Viña Echeverría combines elegant and classic Cabernet Sauvignon with juicy and flavorsome Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Delightful drinking, this smooth wine is full of ripe fruit flavors.
The Echeverría family came to Chile in the 1750s, from a little town called Amezqueta in the Basque region of Spain. They established agricultural properties just north of Santiago, where they planted vineyards, among other crops. Over time vineyard holdings have grown to 65 hectares, and Viña Echeverría remains a family-owned and managed estate winery, occupying the same location for as long as anyone can remember. Family owned wineries are, as we know, not at all the norm in Chile. This sets Echeverría apart and it shows in the personality of their finished wines. Roberto Echeverría Jr continues to lead all activities here and if you get the chance to meet him make sure you do so!
