Fitz Roy Sauvignon Blanc
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Before cool-climate/coastal Sauvignon Blanc became fashionable in Chile during the late nineties, the Curico Valley was king for this varietal.
- Warmer temperatures produce a “throwback” style, with lush, tropical flavors and aromas (think citrus, mango, lychee, and papaya).
Varietal Composition: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
Elaboration: Grapes come from coastal vineyards that are cooled by mornings fog and cold mountain air in the evenings. Soil is rich in minerals, sandy and stony alluvial. Grapes are hand picked and selected once in the vineyard and once in the winery. Grapes are cooled and pressed and fermented in stainless steel with temperature control. Malolactic fermentation is kept from taking place. Unoaked.
Tasting Notes: Pale yellow in color, this white wine brings bright aromas of melon, hay, and grapefruit/lime. Fruit flavors including citrusy lime and stone fruits lead to a medium bodied palate. The wine finishes with a bright acidity.
