Gorman Winery The Devil You Know

Gorman Winery Red Blend “The Devil You Know”

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Combines finesse with a gutsy structure, offering deep flavors of black raspberry, with black tea and orange zest accents.
  • It’s a softer more approachable red thanks to leading with Merlot & having lighter oak expression.
  • It’s the Devil that used to be an Angel.

Varietal Composition: 40% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot

Elaboration: Bordeaux varietals aged for 20 months in 100% French Oak.

Tasting Notes: “The 2021 Gorman ‘The Devil You Know’ Red Wine has a large portion of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller parts Malbec and Petit Verdot. This is rich and viscous with a smooth texture. Layers of tobacco leaf and black currants combine with logabanberry cordial flavors on the palate. This is concentrated stuff that is seriously good right now. Drink 2024-2034.” -Owen Bargreen

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Chris Gorman is the highly respected owner and winemaker at Gorman Winery in the northeast Seattle suburb of Maltby. After graduating from college in 1991, Chris spent three years working for a small Italian importer. His philosophy was, and still is, “to make wine, it is imperative to understand it.” So, for the next decade, he traveled extensively in the wine areas of Italy, Spain, and Germany before returning home and establishing Gorman Winery in 2002.

He began by choosing premium suppliers and respected growers, such as Kiona Vineyards, partnering with the finest coopers and suppliers, and producing small-batch wines that quickly gained a following. His wines have been described as delicious, raucous, and intense. Chris’s other love is music, and his Woodinville, Washington, tasting room features walls decorated with celebrity-signed guitars. Live music is offered there on Friday nights.
