Greenstone Point Pinot Gris
WHY WE LOVE IT
- As one of the original members of New Zealand’s Sustainable Winegrowing Programme, the Sherwoods are committed to the improvement of their sustainable wine production and environmental management practices.
- They make their own compost from organic vineyard and winery waste. They use biological controls for pest and disease management. Soil and disease management through the use of inter-row crops.
Varietal Composition: 100% Pinot Gris
Elaboration: The fruit was harvested in mid-April 2017 in excellent condition. A number of treatments on the fruit followed – whole bunch fermentation, extended skin contact, indigenous fermentation and barrel fermentations. The parcels of wine were then blended prior to filtering and bottling.
Tasting Notes: A soft, gentle Pinot Gris with a rich, light-textured palate. Aromas of savory yellow stone fruit, floral aromas, honey and Nashi pear. The palate is light-bodied and dryish to taste with flavors of yellow stone fruit, subtle floral notes and honeysuckle. The richness of the palate is balanced by light, phenolic textures giving dryness and fresh acidity.
Dayne and Jill Sherwood established Greenstone Point Vineyards in 1997 to craft outstanding examples of value-priced New Zealand wine. Fruit is selected from the underdog Waipara Valley region, and by collaborating closely with their growers, Dayne and Jill are able to create examples of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir that punch well above their weight class.
