Greenstone Point Sauvignon Blanc

Greenstone Point Sauvignon Blanc

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • As one of the original members of New Zealand’s Sustainable Winegrowing Programme, the Sherwoods are committed to the improvement of their sustainable wine production and environmental management practices.
  • They make their own compost from organic vineyard and winery waste. They use biological controls for pest and disease management. Soil and disease management through the use of inter-row crops.
  • The fruit was carefully selected from four vineyard sites throughout the Waipara Valley, New Zealand. The extended growing season of warm, fine days and cool nights of the Waipara Valley ensured the fruit was harvested in excellent condition.
  • For “bang for the buck” you can’t do much better.

Varietal Composition: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Elaboration: Following harvest in mid-April 2018 the fruit was gently pressed, settled and racked to stainless steel tanks. The juice was cool fermented for 21 days and left on lees contact for a further two months prior to blending, a light fining, filtering and bottling.

Tasting Notes: Aromas of gooseberry, fresh herbs and freshly-cut grass with slight asparagus notes. A refreshing wine with flavors of crab apple, quince and white peach. Hints of passionfruit lend a slightly sweet fruit note while vegetal aspects of artichoke give the wine a complex and interesting flavor profile. A medium-bodied wine with light acidity and a fine grained texture.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Dayne and Jill Sherwood established Greenstone Point Vineyards in 1997 to craft outstanding examples of value-priced New Zealand wine. Fruit is selected from the underdog Waipara Valley region, and by collaborating closely with their growers, Dayne and Jill are able to create examples of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir that punch well above their weight class.
