Gruber Röschitz
Gruber Röschitz is a family-owned, organic winery in Röschitz, Austria, within the Weinviertel region. It is run by third-generation siblings Ewald, Maria, and Christian Gruber. The winery is known for its commitment to organic and sustainable viticulture, producing a range of wines including Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Zweigelt, and Pinot Noir. They have been cultivating their vineyards organically since 2013 and are known for their focus on finesse-driven wines.
Röschitz is located in the northern part of Weinviertel, on the slopes of Manhartsberg. With an average temperature of 9.5°C, it is considered one of the cooler wine-producing regions. The area benefits from a unique geological feature that provides exceptional conditions for growing wine, possibly the best in all of Weinviertel. While the region is primarily characterized by gravel, sand, and loess, Röschitz stands out due to its meager primary rock soils composed of granite and a thin layer of loess on top.
The Gruber siblings are continuing their family’s legacy by producing authentic wines in their hometown. Their commitment to organic farming across their vineyard plots is commendable. Although these methods result in lower yields, the unique identity and character of their wines more than compensate. By allowing nature to take charge, they enhance the vines’ self-healing abilities, thereby nurturing their most valuable resource: the soils of Röschitz.
