Proidl Gruner Veltliner Ried Hausberg Kremstal DAC
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Reid Hausberg vineyard was first documented mention in 1449, meaning “a vineyard in the immediate vicinity of the castle”. Thus the vineyard connects northeastward to the Ehrenfels and now extends above the Hochäcker.
- This cadastral vineyard encompasses extremely diverse sorts of terrain, and accordingly, very different conditions prevail in different areas.
- The warmer climate ensures optimum conditions for vinifying medium-weight, elegant Veltliner.
- Since the harvest here takes place relatively late due to the elevation, the wines prove to be very complex and ageworthy.
Varietal: 100% Gruner Veltliner
Elaboration: Proidl Gruner Veltliner Ried Hausberg Kremstal DAC was aged 5 months in large wooden foudre barrels.
Tasting Notes: Medium yellow green color with silver reflections. Ripe tropical fruits, a bit of candied clementines, a bit of apricot, dark minerality, inviting bouquet. Juicy, elegant, fine acidity, mineral and salty, a touch of yellow apples, lingers long, versatile.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND
The Proidl family have been in Seftenberg since 1650, when they fled their native Bremen (in present-day Germany) during the Thirty Years’ War. By 1738 they were established in the wine trade, and the family business, Weingut Proidl, is now run by Franz and Andrea Proidl, along with their son and winemaker Patrick Proidl, who represent the ninth and tenth generations of the Proidl family in the business. Their sweeping and steep vineyards total twenty-five hectares of vines in the most notable Kremstal single vineyard sites: Ehrenfels, Hochäcker, Pellingen, Pfenningberg and Rameln.
