Proidl Grüner Veltliner Ried Pellingen Reserve Kremstal
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Ried Pellingen vineyard was first mentioned officially in 1590. Its advantages are noted in the old records: in general a relatively good and warm site on the lower slope, but still with 14–22° gradient.
- Thanks to the well-sheltered setting and the many old vines, the vineyard is ideally suited for age-worthy marquee-quality Veltliner.
- The oldest of these vines have now reached their 55th year in the best of health, and thus provide the most valuable basis for vinifying top-drawer Veltliners.
- Sustainable farming practices are used on this vineyard.
Varietal: 100% Grüner Veltliner
Elaboration: The physiologically fully-ripened grapes from old vines are harvested by hand in several passes from mid-October to the beginning of November; a portion of the grapes are destemmed and left on the skins for 10–12 hours of maceration. Slow fermentation on its own yeasts in large oak casks and stainless steel gives the wine its aromatic complexity. After fermentation, extended maturation on the lees before bottling in late August.
Tasting Notes: Beautiful peppery spice. Distinctive, fine and clear Veltliner fruit expresses the character of this wine, all the way from the inviting nose to the long, robust finish.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND
The Proidl family have been in Seftenberg since 1650, when they fled their native Bremen (in present-day Germany) during the Thirty Years’ War. By 1738 they were established in the wine trade, and the family business, Weingut Proidl, is now run by Franz and Andrea Proidl, along with their son and winemaker Patrick Proidl, who represent the ninth and tenth generations of the Proidl family in the business. Their sweeping and steep vineyards total twenty-five hectares of vines in the most notable Kremstal single vineyard sites: Ehrenfels, Hochäcker, Pellingen, Pfenningberg and Rameln.
