Lomita Hacienda Tinto

Lomita Hacienda Tinto

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The Hacienda Tinto is grown on the Valle de Guadalupe Estate vineyards that have clay and granite soil.
  • La Lomita produces Hacienda Tinto from their organically farmed and sustainable vineyards located mid-valley on a northwestern facing slope at 950 ft. elevation.
  • Will age gracefully for a decade or more.

Varietal Composition: 175% Tempranillo, 25% Merlot

Elaboration: Grapes are harvested by hand and hand selected before being fermented with skins and seeds in open top stainless steel tanks for 3 weeks and then racked to 2nd and 3rd use French oak barrels where the wine aged for 12 months.

Tasting Notes: Tempranillo based blend that is bold in structure and good background of acidity to provide a large wine with the lift needed to float effortlessly across the palate. Full bodied.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Hacienda La Lomita was founded in 2009 by Fernando Pérez Castro in the heart of Valle de Guadalupe, Baja, Mexico, north of Ensenada and approximately nine miles from the Pacific near the village of San Antonio de las Minas.

The winery and its estate vineyards are on a northwestern-facing slope in the ejido of Francisco Zarco. Ejido refers to village lands that are communally held in a traditional system of land tenure that combines communal ownership with individual use. The estate grows some of the region’s oldest vines.

The estate has practiced organic viticulture since 2012 and is one of the region’s few certified organic wineries. The vineyard sits at about 1,000 feet in elevation with a soil profile consisting of a mix of clay and granite.
