Il Monticello
Azienda Agricola Il Monticello is an organic, family-run winery located in Sarzana, Italy. It was founded in 1982 by Pier Luigi Neri when he inherited a 19th-century house and the surrounding land. His sons, Alessandro and Davide, later took over the estate and transitioned it to organic and biodynamic farming across 14 hectares.
Situated on the hills of Colli di Luni, which borders Liguria and Tuscany, the winery overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. They cultivate a variety of vineyards that focus on native regional grapes, including Vermentino, Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, and Canaiolo. The winery emphasizes respect for local heritage while balancing tradition with modern technology.
Azienda Agricola Il Monticello takes pride in its commitment to natural farming methods that promote ecological harmony. By avoiding synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides, they nourish the land with natural compost and carefully follow the astrological calendar to guide their vineyard practices. Innovative techniques, including the use of drones for plant health assessment and modern monitoring systems for vine growth, reflect their dedication to both tradition and progress.
