Il Monticello 'Groppolo' Vermentino

Il Monticello ‘Groppolo’ Vermentino

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Il Monticello ‘Groppolo’ is a delightful Vermentino wine, from the Colli di Luni PDO designation since 1984.
  • The grapes are sourced from vines aged 5 to 30 years, nestled on a sunny hillside near Sarzana at elevations of 100 to 120 meters.
  • Its silty, sandy clay terroir, combined with a Mediterranean microclimate, ensures the grapes ripen evenly.
  • Cultivated through sustainable biodynamic practices and natural fermentation.

Varietal Composition: 100% Vermentino

Elaboration: Vines are grown using the unilateral Guyot cordon espalier technique. Fermentation occurs at 12°C to 16°C, utilizing three maceration methods: Whole Cluster Press, Carbonic, and Skin Contact. Each is fermented separately and blended by vintage. Aging is done in stainless steel.

Tasting Notes: Bright and intense straw yellow color. It is fermented at low temperatures and aged in stainless-steel tanks. It exudes intense aromas of white and yellow-fleshed fruits, ripe citrus with floral notes. Characterized by a marked but elegant acidity.
