Klassen Wines Zinfandel
WHY WE LOVE IT
- 45-year-old vines from 2,400 feet in El Dorado County.
- A wine reflecting the savory and dark fruit aspects of Zinfandel
Varietal Composition: 100% Zinfandel
Elaboration: From 45-year old vines planted in the Fairplay region of El Dorado County. The Frank Herbert vineyard is home to some of the finest expressions of Zinfandel in all of California. Zin takes advantage of the hot days and very cool nights afforded by the elevation. The hang time is extended allowing great skin development of both pigment and tannins. The grapes are harvested by hand and crushed, destemmed, and fermented at the Miraflores winery by Marco Cappelli. Twenty-four months in American oak magnifies the spicy character of the variety and bottle-age focuses the wine on its’ peppery, savory, dark fruit flavors.
Tasting Notes: Brambly dark fruit flavors on the nose with jammy yet defined weight on the palate. A beautiful long, focused finish. Bring on the ribs!
