Kontos Cellars
Kontos Cellars, owned and operated by the Kontos family, has been a cherished part of the Walla Walla wine scene for six generations. The winery is a partnership between brothers Chris and Cameron Kontos, their father Cliff Kontos, and their wives, Kelli and Becca. As sixth-generation residents of Walla Walla, the Kontos family has witnessed the area’s evolution over time. Their rich history includes being involved in the establishment of the first bank in the Northwest Territories, the first railroad in the region, and a legacy of third-generation wheat farming, leading to their current role as second-generation winemakers.
Kontos Cellars specializes in ultra-premium Bordeaux varieties from the Walla Walla Valley. Each year, they create a flagship blend called Alatus. However, much of their approach focuses on blending the same grape varietal from different vineyards, using a mix of French and American oak to enhance complexity and express the character of the grape. Collaborating with esteemed vineyards like Pepper Bridge, Seven Hills, Les Collines, and Summit View, Kontos Cellars consistently produces exceptional-quality wines.
Walla Walla is a diverse community that provides a wide range of experiences and perspectives. Over the past decade, the Kontos family has played a role in its transformation into a vibrant college community that celebrates art, wine, and culture. The community takes pride in its rich agricultural history and fosters a strong sense of belonging, striving to preserve its unique characteristics.
