Lamadrid ‘Matilde’ Malbec
WHY WE LOVE IT
- Lamadrid ‘Matilde’ Malbec is crafted from 100% estate-grown grapes sourced from Vineyard Matilde in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo.
- This vineyard, established in 1929, was named in honor of Guillermo García Lamadrid’s mother.
- The wine benefits from deep roots that extend 90 feet into sandy loam soil and is nurtured with organic drip irrigation, which contributes to the high quality of the grapes.
- The vineyard is located at an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level.
Varietals: 100% Malbec
Elaboration: Hand-picked grapes undergo cold maceration at 6ºC for five days, followed by alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts for 28 days at 28-30ºC. Daily punching down occurs in open French oak barrels during fermentation. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation happens in new French oak, with bâtonnage every seven days for 25 days at 18ºC. The wine is aged for 24 months in new French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes: Black-cherry, currant, dark- chocolate and sandalwood aromas. It’s medium-to full-bodied with velvety tannins. Smooth, concentrated and still fresh.
