Leogate Brokenback Shiraz

Leogate Brokenback Shiraz

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The Brokenback Vineyard, Pokolbin, was planted in the 1970’s and the vines have produced premium grapes year-after-year.
  • The wine drinks well now or gain rewarding bottle age complexity with careful cellaring up to 10 years.
  • This wine is proudly served in Business Class cabins on Qantas International flights.

Varietal Composition: 100% Shiraz

Elaboration: The Brokenback Shiraz is sourced from 50-year-old vines planted using the VSP (vertical shoot positioning) trellis design on a combination fertile red clay and chocolate clay/loam soils with drip irrigation installed on each vine row. There are also selected areas dry grown. The vineyard yield is 1.5 tons per acre or equivalent to 3.75 tons per hectare. The wine is matured in French oak casks 80%, and American oak casks 20%.

Tasting Notes: The Brokenback Shiraz has a classic rich and flavorsome style with subtle French oak complexity. The wine displays pepper, spice and layers of ripe berry/plum fruit flavors, while the fine tannins give the wine structure and length. Medium to full bodied style. Deep red/purple in color with a vibrant crimson hue. An intense bouquet of plum and spice with supporting oak. Drink now or will further develop with medium term cellaring 5–10 years.
