Les Tourelles de Pichon Baron

Château Pichon Longueville Baron, or Pichon Baron, is a premier Pauillac estate in Bordeaux, France, known for its powerful, long-lived wines that showcase exceptional depth and elegance. Classified as a Second Growth (Deuxième Cru) in the 1855 classification, the estate produces its prestigious Grand Vin primarily from old vines of Cabernet Sauvignon, with a significant portion of Merlot blended in, aged in a high percentage of new French oak barrels.

The estate’s captivating history began in the late 17th century during the Grand Siècle, when Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan, a prominent wine merchant, founded Enclos Rauzan in 1689, acquiring vineyards near the prestigious Latour estate. In 1694, these vineyards became part of the dowry for his daughter Thérèse when she married Baron Jacques Pichon de Longueville, thus establishing the Pichon Longueville estate, which gained renown over the centuries.

In 1987, AXA, a French insurance company, acquired the estate and initiated a transformative renovation. This included the reconstruction of the vat room and barrel cellar, alongside updates to the charming 19th-century château, which now features a stunning reflecting pool that cleverly hides a subterranean barrel cellar.

Today, the estate focuses on quality over quantity, producing complex, concentrated wines that reflect the unique gravelly terroir near the Gironde estuary, each bottle narrating a tale of rich history and meticulous craftsmanship.
